On May 2, 2018 at approximately 8:20 p.m., a member of the Guelph Police Service Traffic Division was conducting speed surveillance on Woodlawn Road East, close to the area of Imperial Road North. It is alleged police observed two vehicles travelling at a very high rate of speed going eastbound on Woodlawn Road East. These vehicles appeared to be racing.

Police activated lights and sirens in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop on both vehicles. Both vehicles did not stop for police, in fact, cut through a business parking lot and went northbound on Imperial Road North. Both vehicles eventually stopped at an address on Curtis Drive.

Jonathan Kostal, a 21-year-old Guelph man, and Matthew Cameron, a 30-year-old Guelph man, were charged with dangerous driving, flight from police and Highway Traffic Offences, including racing, which results in a seven-day impoundment of the vehicle.

Both individuals were given a July 3, 2018 court date.
