Police cleared in hotel death

Police were called to a Holiday Inn Express in May for reports of a male causing damage

The province's Special Investigations Unit has cleared Guelph Police of criminal charges in the May death of a 25-year-old man at a Holiday Inn Express and Suites.

"On Monday October 17, 2016 the Director of the SIU reported to the Chief of Police that in both his view and that of the investigators assigned to this case that there are was no reasonable grounds to conclude that the officer in charge of this situation or any member of the Guelph Police committed a criminal offence in relation to the May 17, 2016 incident," reports Guelph Police.

"The Director also went on to say in his report that the Guelph Police Service cooperated with the S.I.U. during their investigation."

Police were called to the Silver Creek Parkway hotel in the early morning hours of May 17 for a male who had rented a room on the third floor and was causing extensive damage.

Police sya officers made attempts to speak with the male, but were unsuccessful and the Tactics and Rescue Team entered the room. The male was located unresponsive.
