A Guelph male picked the wrong spot for a late-morning snooze Monday, after police checking his wellbeing ended up arresting him.

Approximately 10:20 a.m. Guelph police were dispatched to check on a male who was reported to be passed out behind a business on Silvercreek Parkway North near Speedvale Avenue West. Police located the male, who said he was fine and was just taking a nap.

Officers noticed a bicycle beside the male, which matched the description of a distinctive bicycle stolen two days earlier during a break and enter. The male was arrested, and a search incident to arrest revealed several break and enter tools in his backpack.

A 39-year-old Guelph male is charged with possessing stolen property under $5,000 and possessing break and enter instruments. He will appear in a Guelph court October 1, 2021.
