A Guelph female who worked with an accomplice to defraud their joint employer has been arrested for four counts of theft.

On June 11, the Guelph police were contacted by a loss-prevention employee of a business in the south end of Guelph who was reporting an alleged theft by two employees. Investigation revealed on four occasions in May, one of the employees shopped in the store and went through the other employee’s check-out. Each time only a fraction of the cost was charged by either pretending to scan items or by scanning them and immediately voiding the transaction.

During the four transactions, the employee who was shopping paid approximately $234 and left the business with $1,360 in unpaid merchandise.

Both employees were fired when the scheme was discovered.

A 20-year-old Guelph female is charged with four counts of theft under $5,000. She will appear in a Guelph court October 12, 2021. Efforts are ongoing to locate the second female.
