Guelph police are looking for a man who reportedly brandished a hatchet after being refused a free coffee at a north end business Monday night.

Police say that around 10:37 p.m. a man walked through the drive-thru of a business located near the intersection of Woodlawn Road West and Imperial Road North and requested a free coffee from staff.

When he was denied, he reached for the debit machine in an attempt to remove it. Staff members recovered the machine, and the male began walking to the entrance of the business.

A staff member quickly locked the door, preventing the male from entering. He then brandished a hatchet, waving it over his head.

He left the area riding a blue bicycle and carrying bags a short time later.

The man is described as: Caucasian, 35 years old, brown hair and wearing a black top, jeans and white shoes.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Guelph police at 519-824-1212 or report to Crime Stoppers.
