Police make arrest after stolen credit card used multiple times

On May 20, 2020, the Guelph Police Service responded the report of a residential break and enter at a residence on Porter Crescent in the City of Guelph. It was reported that while the residents were working in the backyard, unknown person(s) entered the residence and stole a wallet from the front vestibule of the home.  The wallet contained identification and credits cards. 

A credit card belonging to the victim was fraudulently used several times throughout the City of Guelph. Attempts were made to obtained cash loans using the credit cards and identification at various money lending locations.

With assistance from uniformed officers and the intelligence unit, the Guelph Police Fraud Unit was able to identify a suspect.   

On Sept. 2, 2020, the fraud unit executed a search warrant on a Hawkins Drive residence. Police located additional evidence on scene including several stolen identity documents and approximately 3.55 grams of what is believed to be methamphetamine.     

A 41-year-old Guelph male has been charged with:

  • Laundering proceeds of crime
  • Fraud under $5,000
  • Identity fraud
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Possession of identity documents
  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000

The accused is scheduled to appear in Guelph court on Dec. 18, 2020
