A Guelph male has been arrested 12 years after a residential break and enter after DNA linked him to the crime.
In January, 2009, the Guelph Police Service was called to a break and enter at an address on Alma Street North. The resident had arrived home to find a window was broken to gain access and cash was stolen from the residence.
Officers located blood just outside the broken window and on the window sill. A swab was collected and sent to the Centre of Forensic Sciences (CFS).
In January, 2020, a Guelph male was ordered to provide a DNA sample to the national data bank following a conviction on unrelated matters. A month later, CFS officials notified Guelph Police that sample was a match to the sample from the 2009 burglary.
A 29-year-old male was located Tuesday at an address on Woolwich Street and arrested for break and enter. He will appear in a Guelph court August 27.
