A Guelph male has been arrested after a downtown-area home was entered last week while the homeowners were sleeping.

Last Thursday, approximately 5:20 a.m., police were called to a home in the area of Northumberland Street and Glasgow Street North after the homeowners were awakened by the sound of someone in their home. They found the front room ransacked and a door standing ajar.

A credit card stolen from the home was later used at two local businesses, leading to the identification of the responsible male. Investigation revealed the same male had also entered a shed in the same neighbourhood and stolen several power tools.

A Guelph male is charged with two counts each of break and enter, unauthorized use of a credit card and fraud under $5,000 and single counts of possessing stolen property and failing to comply with an undertaking. He was held for a bail hearing Monday.
