A Guelph woman faces robbery and driving charges after attempting to steal a vehicle from Good Samaritans who stopped to check on her, Guelph police report.

Just after 1 p.m. Sunday police were called to the area of Speedvale Avenue West and Lewis Road. An elderly couple were driving when they saw a woman lying at the side of the road with bare feet and stopped to check on her. The woman quickly stood up and got into the driver’s seat of the victims’ car.

The car was reversed, nearly striking another vehicle and dragging the victims with the doors until the husband was able to reach in and put the car in park. His wife sustained a possibly dislocated shoulder.

The suspect fled on foot but was located and arrested a short distance away. A 32-year-old woman is charged with robbery, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, four counts of driving while disqualified and two counts of breach of probation. She was held for a bail hearing.
