A Guelph female was arrested Sunday morning after a police officer was reportedly hit in the cheek with a lit cigarette.

Approximately 9:15 a.m. officers were investigating a report of someone stealing a bicycle when they stopped a female matching the description in the area of Edinburgh Road North and June Avenue. While speaking to the female, she flicked her lit cigarette directly at an officer, hitting him in the face, police say.

The officer was not injured. A 39-year-old Guelph female was arrested for assault police. She will appear in a Guelph court Feb. 4.
