A motor vehicle which was being sought for fleeing a serious collision last Saturday has been located and a Puslinch male arrested.

On May 15, approximately 8:13 p.m., the drivers of a white Cadillac and dark-coloured BMW engaged in a street race on Quebec Street at Norfolk Street. The vehicles were captured on several surveillance videos racing north on Woolwich Street. As they approached a grade in the road near Powell Street, the Cadillac drove into the southbound lane while still driving north.

The Cadillac collided with a southbound Volkswagen, demolishing both vehicles. Two parked vehicles were also hit. A second southbound motor vehicle swerved to avoid the collision and hit a third parked vehicle.

A teenaged female in the Volkswagen was taken to Guelph General Hospital and then later transported to a Hamilton trauma centre for abdominal surgery. She continues to recover in hospital.

The driver and a passenger in the Cadillac were arrested at the scene for driving and drug offences. The BMW fled the scene without stopping.

Investigation led to the arrest Friday of a 19-year-old Puslinch male. A 2010 BMW was seized at his residence. He is charged with dangerous driving causing bodily harm, criminal negligence causing bodily harm, fail to remain at a collision involving bodily harm and racing a motor vehicle. He was held for a bail hearing Saturday.

The Guelph Police Service wishes to thank all the community members who assisted with the investigation. Anyone who still has video of the incident or who witnessed the events and has not yet spoken to police is asked to call Constable Lindsay Porterfield of the Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit at 519-824-1212, ext. 7182, or email her.
