A report of a stolen vehicle on the weekend was actually a case of mistaken identity, Guelph police report.

Around 4:15 p.m. Saturday, police received a report of an SUV being stolen. The victim noted his Chevy Equinox had been parked on Harvard Road but when he looked outside it was gone. When officers called the victim back for more information, he reported a neighbour had seen a towing company loading the SUV onto a flat bed truck.

Investigation led officers to another address nearby, where they found the missing SUV in the driveway. A resident at that address said she had asked to have her Equinox towed home from Harvard Road, and was surprised to have a silver one dropped off, rather than her white one.

The missing Equinox was returned to its owner.
