Residential Explosion 32 Southcreek Trail
The following release is being posted on behalf of the Guelph Fire Department
On Friday, Jan. 31, 2020, at approximately 13:37hrs, the Guelph Fire Department responded to a report of a residential explosion at 32 Southcreek Trail.
Fighters arrived to find a home had exploded out from all four corners. One person was in the home at the time of the explosion and was rescued by firefighters. The victim was treated by paramedics at the scene and subsequently taken to Hospital.
Due to the nature of this call, the Ontario Fire Marshall was called to the scene to investigate. Also called to the scene was the Technical Standard and Safety Authority.
The cause of the explosion and an estimate of damage as a result of this incident is unknown at the time of this media release.
The Guelph Fire Department would like to thank the Guelph Police Service, Hydro, Enbridge and Guelph and Wellington Paramedic Services for their help throughout this incident.
Impaired driving arrest
On Feb. 1, 2020 at approximately 1:05 a.m., members from the Guelph Police Service observed a vehicle leaving an establishment in the North end of Guelph. Police followed the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on the Hanlon Expy. Police spoke with the driver and a roadside screening test was administered to the driver in which they failed.
As a result of the investigation, the 30-year-old Guelph female was charged with failure or refusal to comply with demand and novice driver B.A.C. above zero. The female was also issued a 90-day driver’s licence suspension.
The 30-year-old female was released on a promise to appear with a court date of Feb. 14, 2020.
Stolen vehicle - male and female arrested
On Jan. 31, 2020, members of the Guelph Police Tactics and Rescue Unit observed a vehicle that was reported stolen out of London in a hotel parking lot in the North end of Guelph. Investigation revealed that the individuals who were occupying the vehicle were inside one of the hotel rooms. While police were containing the room, the suspects were able to crawl to a neighbouring room, break through the drywall and exit the unit.
The suspects were seen fleeing the area but were quickly located by police in a nearby parking lot. As a result, a 25-year-old London female was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, occupant - stolen motor vehicle, mischief to property over $5,000, breach of undertaking x2, breach of probation, possession of stolen credit card, and possession of a controlled substance.
A 25-year-old Strathroy male was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, occupant - stolen motor vehicle, mischief to property over $5,000, breach of undertaking, breach of recognizance x3, possession of stolen credit card, possession of a controlled substance x2, and breach of probation.
