Shoplifting suspect sends officers on foot chase: Guelph Police

On April 27, 2020 at 10:30 a.m., [it is alleged that] an adult male shoplifted $529.41 worth of merchandise from a store located near the intersection of Woodlawn Road West and Woolwich Street in the City of Guelph. The merchandise included a backpack, watches, footwear, alcohol, tools, jewelry and clothing apparel.

At 10:48 a.m., police located the male outside a nearby motel. Police attempted to arrest the male, however, he fled on foot. After a brief foot chase, the male was arrested. A search incident to arrest revealed the above mentioned stolen property and a credit card not in the male’s name.

A 23-year-old Guelph male has been charged with:
    •    Theft under $5,000
    •    Possession of stolen property under $5,000 x2
    •    Escape lawful custody
    •    Breach probation x2

He will appear in court on Aug. 4.
