South end confrontation leads to robbery charge

A Guelph male is charged with robbery following an altercation Friday evening.

Shortly before 11 p.m. Friday, police were called to a report of a male with a weapon in the area of a south end school. Investigation revealed two males were involved in an altercation when one threw a large rock through the rear window of the second male’s car.

The suspect then demanded the victim’s cellphone while holding something shiny in his hand. The victim handed over the phone and the male fled on a bicycle.

Officers arrived quickly and located the suspect, who was caught following a short foot pursuit. Police recovered the stolen cellphone and two knives from the male.

A 33-year-old Guelph male is charged with robbery and mischief. He was held for a bail hearing and has been released to appear in a Guelph court February 4, 2022.
