Guelph police are investigating after a stolen pickup truck hit a fence and narrowly missed a house before being set on fire early Sunday morning.

At approximately 1:25 a.m. police were dispatched to a report of a pickup truck on fire in the parking lot of John F. Ross Collegiate Vocational Institute on Meyer Drive. Three minutes later police were contacted by a resident of Vancouver Drive advising a red pickup had gone off the road, hit his fence and just missed hitting his house before fleeing. The driver was described as Caucasian in his late 20s or early 30s with a large build.

Police arrived and used a fire extinguisher to douse a small fire on the unoccupied vehicle’s seat. There was considerable smoke damage to the interior.

Investigation revealed the truck had earlier been stolen during a break-in to a business compound on Dawson Road.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Constable Konrad Babol at 519-824-1212, ext. 7189, email him at [email protected], leave an anonymous tip for Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or leave an anonymous tip online at www.csgw.tips.
