A 20-year-old Toronto man faces numerous charges after Guelph police responded to a suspicious vehicle call early Saturday – a vehicle was stuck on train tracks and a man was moving items into a taxi.

Police responded to the area of Alma Street North and Inkerman Street at about 6 a.m. As they arrived, the male fled on foot but was caught following a “brief foot chase,” explains a news release. In an attempt to get away, the suspect reportedly kicked an officer.

An investigation revealed the vehicle had been taken from a home in the area of Woolwich and Verney streets a few days earlier. Inside the vehicle police discovered nearly $15,000 in tools believed to have been taken during a Toronto break-in on Saturday.

During the arrest, police also discovered 11.3 grams of a substance suspected to be cocaine, separated into multiple baggies. Inside a gym bag, officers found a digital scale with white powder on it, two cellphones, a plastic bag containing a BMW key fob, two dozen other miscellaneous keys and a sheathed Gerber knife.

The accused is charged with assault to resist arrest, possessing stolen property over $5,000, possessing stolen property under $5,000, possessing controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of breaching probation and five counts of breaching release orders.
