TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON - On Nov. 8, 2018, at approximately 6 p.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a fatal collision involving a single motor vehicle on Wellington Road 18, near Lake Belwood. It was reported that a driver exited his vehicle on the side of the road and was attempting to cross the highway when he was struck by a passing motorist.

OPP, Centre Wellington Fire Rescue and Guelph Wellington Paramedics Service responded to the scene. A 78-year-old Stoney Creak man was transported to local hospital with life-threatening injuries but was pronounced dead by hospital medical staff.

The identity of the deceased is pending next of kin notification.

The cause of the collision is currently being investigated by OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) and the roadway will remain closed until further notice.
