A Guelph teen was arrested Tuesday morning, a day after a threatening message was found on the wall of a Guelph high school.
On Tuesday morning, an image of a message began circulating on Facebook. The message on the wall of a College Heights Secondary School bathroom in Guelph read in part: ‘I am going to shoot up the school on Dec. 15.’ It continued to talk about killing students and teachers and the weapons at hand.
Staff from a school in the city’s south end contacted police late Monday afternoon. Investigation led to the arrest Tuesday morning of a 17-year-old male. Guelph police said the investigation is ongoing, but at this point there does not appear to be a safety concern at the school.
“The board is aware of a concerning message that was posted in a bathroom of one of our secondary schools yesterday and was subsequently shared on social media,” read a statement by the UGDSB Tuesday morning.
“We take this matter very seriously. The school and police are currently investigating to address this matter swiftly. Our students and staff are safe, and we will continue to work closely with the police on this serious matter.”
The post gained attention on a Facebook group Tuesday morning. Many Facebook users expressed concern over the post saying the message shouldn’t be taken lightly and that they would keep their children home until they know it's safe to be in school.
