An Etobicoke male who came to Guelph and reportedly bought an iPad with counterfeit money last month was arrested Thursday after trying to sell that same iPad to an undercover Guelph police officer.

On March 31, a Guelph female reported she had advertised an iPad for sale on a popular buying and selling website. A male arrived at her residence and handed over an envelope of cash before quickly taking the device and leaving in a vehicle. The victim quickly discovered the cash was fake.

Earlier this week, the victim noted her iPad had been offered for sale on the same website. She was able to tell it was the same one due to distinguishing marks on the box.

Guelph police contacted the seller and arranged to meet at a shopping mall in the Toronto area. When the male showed up he was arrested.

A 24-year-old Etobicoke male is charged with fraud, using counterfeit money and trafficking property obtained by crime. He will appear in a Guelph court August 6.
