Threatening phone call leads to large police presence

Threats were determined to be unsubstantiated and person making the call was cautioned

Numerous police cars descended on the plaza that is home to the Family and Children's Services office on Eramosa Road Wednesday afternoon.

Guelph police report they were investigating a threat "against an office premise" in the city that was determined it to be unsubstantiated.

Police did not identify the exact location, but at that time roughly 10 police vehicles surrounded the Family and Children's Services plaza.

Police say that at approximately 4:20 p.m. they learned an employee of the premise near the intersection of Eramosa Road and Metcalfe Street had received a threat via telephone. Police attended and checked the premise thoroughly, finding nothing of concern.

Through subsequent investigation officers were able to speak to the male who made the threat. The male was very apologetic and was cautioned against having any further contact. After consultation with staff at the office premise it was determined no charges would be pursued.
