Three people face charges after police stopped a motor vehicle Wednesday reported stolen hours earlier.

At approximately 4 p.m. a male called police to report his vehicle missing. He said he had gone to visit friends at a downtown apartment building when another male asked to borrow the vehicle to go to the store. When the vehicle was not returned five hours later, the owner asked others in the apartment to contact the male who had taken the vehicle. They refused and kicked him out of the apartment so he called police.

Just before 8 p.m., officers on patrol spotted the vehicle driving in the downtown core and pulled it over on Wellington Street East. Three people in the vehicle were arrested.

A 30-year-old Guelph female, a 24-year-old Guelph female and a 33-year-old Guelph male were jointly arrested for possessing stolen property over $5,000. The male was further charged with assault and mischief after it was discovered he was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

The females will appear in a Guelph court August 6. The male was held for a bail hearing Thursday.
