Road safety in Guelph

The Guelph Police have had a busy first half of the year trying to make Guelph Roads safer through enforcement.  The Highway Traffic Act covers everything from permits and licences to equipment, rules of the road and more. Here are enforcement numbers for some of the rules of the road from January 1 to July 13.

2,761 speeding

236 disobey sign

144 disobey stop sign

134 Drive distracted

110 red light – fail to stop

Each year in Canada, about 2,000 people are killed and 165,000 are injured (10,000 seriously) while using our roads and costs society $37 billion annually.

We need to respect every individual on the road and the laws that are laid down for our safety. Police enforcement of the rules of the road is just a small piece. It is incumbent upon the police and the public to work together to ensure that roadways are safe.

Police incidents from the past 24 hours

The Guelph Police were involved in 200 incidents in this time frame. Incidents involve everything from traffic stops and accidental 911 calls to domestics and break and enters.
