Guelph Police responded to 196 calls for service

The following news releases were issued today by the Guelph Police Service:  

Male flown to London after collision
On Oct. 13, 2020 at 5 p.m., a black SUV being operated by a 45-year-old Guelph female and a motorcycle being operated by a 38-year-old Guelph male collided at the intersection of Paisley Street and Glasgow Street North in the City of Guelph. This intersection is governed by a stop sign for north and south bound traffic on Glasgow Street North.

As a result of the collision, the male sustained serious injuries and was flown by Air ORNGE to a trauma centre in London, Ont.

The female was treated for minor injuries locally and released.

Members of the Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit attended the scene. The roadway was closed until just before 9 p.m. while the investigation took place.

Please note that the male is still in hospital, but he is in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing.

Commercial break-in
On Oct. 14, 2020 at 6:38 a.m., a business located in the downtown core of the City of Guelph was entered. Entry was gained through a back door. A cash box containing $500 and a black iPhone SE was taken.
    •    The suspect is described as:
    •    Tall
    •    Thin
    •    Wearing a light-coloured jacket with a hood and gloves with reflective writing on the top
    •    Carrying a backpack with two dark-coloured vertical straps along the back

Multiple shoplifting investigations
On Oct. 14, 2020 at 5:37 p.m., an adult male entered a store located near the intersection of Silvercreek Parkway North and Willow Road in the City of Guelph. [It is alleged that] he proceeded to shoplift a pair of size 11 Nike Court Royale AC shoes valued at $99.99. A store employee confronted him and asked to search his bag, however he refused and left the store.

The male is described as:
    •    Caucasian
    •    40 years old
    •    Medium build
    •    Wearing a black sweater and black baseball hat
    •    Carrying a black suitcase and grey backpack

At 8:13 p.m., an adult male entered another store located near the same intersection. [It is alleged that] he then began placing approximately $30 worth of candy and protein bars in to his pockets. A store employee confronted him and asked him to empty his pockets, however he refused and left the store.

The male is described as:
    •    Caucasian
    •    40 years old
    •    5’6"
    •    Bald
    •    Wearing a black jacket

It is uncertain at this time whether the same male is responsible for both thefts. The investigations are ongoing.

Bicycle theft
On Oct. 14, 2020 at 9:05 p.m., a black Trek Skye bicycle with pink and blue detailing (valued at $600) was left out front of a residence located near the intersection of Woolwich Street and Speedvale Avenue West in the City of Guelph. A purple lock was placed around the bicycle’s wheels, making it inoperable, however it was not secured to any object.

A short time later, a dark hatchback style SUV with tinted windows was observed pulling up to the bicycle. After the SUV left, the bicycle was gone.
