Thefts from vehicles, break and enter, calls for service

The following are news releases issued by the Guelph Police Service:

Just before 3:30 a.m. this morning,  a patrol officer noticed footprints in the snow that led to hole cut in the fence around a Huron Street property and then to unoccupied building within. Inside the building police came across a male in the process of removing metal piping from the structure.

A 47-year-old Guelph man is charged with break and enter, possession of break and enter instruments, possession of a prohibited weapon and two counts of breach of probation. He was held in custody and will appear in bail court today.

On Dec. 11, there were eight reported incidents where vehicles were gone through around the city. Money, tools, a licence plate and other property was reported stolen.

For the most part, this crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible. If you do fall victim to this crime, please report using the Guelph Police CopLogic online reporting system.

You can find this on the Guelph Police website under Online Reporting. You can also check out recent theft from car locations by going to our crime mapping page.

Over the course of the day on December 11, 2017 the Guelph Police Service responded to 213 calls for service.
