Halloween has come and gone in what was a safe and relatively quiet night. Police and Bylaw did attend to nine noisy party complaints. Ten bylaw tickets were issued in relation to those complaints.

Erratic driver charged with impaired

CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP – On Oct. 28, 2016 at approximately 6:50 p.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a driving complaint involving a motor vehicle that was observed stopping and starting, driving on the opposite side of the road, and flashing lights in Elora and Fergus, Centre Wellington Township.

Officers located the 2015 Infinity QX6 that matched the description on Union Street in Fergus. A traffic stop was conducted and while speaking with the driver, police immediately detected the odour of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was transported to a nearby OPP Operation Centre for further testing.

41-year-old Justin Gauthier of Orangeville has been charged with Over 80 mgs contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal court on Dec. 6, 2016 to answer to the charge.

Police also received a scary clown complaint in the area of Hadati Road when a group of youths told an adult they had been chased by clowns in Peter Misersky Park. Police checked the area but did not find any clowns.

Break and enter

On Oct. 31, 2016 at 7:30 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a Speedvale Avenue East business to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered the gated compound and stole tools from vehicles.

Theft from cars

On Oct. 31, 2016 the Guelph Police received three reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Bristol Street, Bard Boulevard and Elginfield Drive.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible.
