Guelph Police responded to 867 calls for service

The following news release was issued today by the Guelph Police Service:

Commercial break and enter
Sometime between 7:00 p.m. Sept 3, 2020, and 5 a.m. Sept. 4, 2020, unknown person(s) forced entry to a commercial property on Arrow Road in the City of Guelph.  Once entry was gained, the suspect(s) used an onsite blowtorch to gain entry to a storage room.   A safe, a Charity Fundraising Box containing cash and a Lenovo Think Pad laptop were stolen from the property.

Stolen bicycle worth $9,000 recovered  
On Oct. 17, 2019, the Guelph Police Service responded to the report of a residential break and enter on Stuart Street in the City of Guelph.  A custom bicycle valued at $9,000 was stolen.

On Sept. 4, 2020, at approximately 6:28 p.m., Guelph Police observed a male riding what was believed to be the stolen bicycle.  The male was stopped on McGilvray Street, Guelph and Police were able to confirm the bicycle was stolen.  The male was placed under arrest for possession of stolen property.  Further investigation revealed that just prior to his interaction with Police, the male had hidden a substance under a nearby brick.   The substance was located and believed to be 1.29 grams of methamphetamine.  

A 45 year old Guelph male has been charged with Possession of Stolen Property Over $5,000 and Possession of a Controlled Substance.  The accused is scheduled to appear in Guelph Court on December 18, 2020.

Stolen cell phone recovered
On Sept. 5, 2020, Guelph Police responded to the report of a theft of a personal cell phone at a retail store on Woodlawn Road West near Woolwich Street in the City of Guelph.  Police were able to obtain security video of the theft identifying the suspect.  The owner of the phone then tract the phone to a nearby motel using the phones tracking app. 

Police attended to the motel and located the suspect with the stolen phone. 

A 42 year old Guelph male has been charged with Theft Under $5,000 and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.   The accused is scheduled to appear in Guelph Court on Dec. 11, 2020.
