Two area drivers face impaired charges in separate incidents

Both drivers face a suspension of their licences and had their vehicles impounded

TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH - On Friday, April 12, 2019 at approximately 5 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a possible impaired driver on Wellington Road 109 east of Arthur, Ont. An OPP officer located and stopped the driver of the grey sedan at a gas station in the Village of Arthur.

While speaking with the male driver, officers formed the opinion that he was under the influence of alcohol. A roadside screening test was conducted which resulted in a fail. He was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

Jason Leigh Balkwill, 38-years-old of Guelph has been charged with Impaired Operation - 80mg plus of alcohol per 100mL of blood. A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

He is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on May 14, 2019.

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON - On Friday, April 12, 2019 at approximately 8:45 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) check on Wellington Road 21 in Inverhaugh, Ont.

A Black Sports Utility Vehicle (S.U.V.) entered the R.I.D.E check and while speaking with the male driver, officers formed the opinion that he was under the influence of alcohol. A roadside screening test was conducted which resulted in a fail. He was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

Kenneth H. O'Neil, 57-years-old of Delhi has been charged with Impaired Operation - 80mg plus of alcohol per 100mL of blood. A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. He is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on May 17, 2019.
