Two drivers face impaired charges

Both vehicles were seized for seven days

On Friday, Sept. 21, 2018 at approximately 2:48 a.m., a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on general patrol on Highway 6 near the Fourth Line of Nichol Township when he observed a white two-door coupe stopped perpendicular across the roadway.

The officer conducted a traffic stop and while speaking with the male driver determined that he was under the influence of alcohol. A roadside screening device (ASD) test was conducted which resulted in a fail. He was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

Twenty-three-year-old Amir Zeric of Kitchener has been charged with driving a motor vehicle with over 80 mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. An administrative driver's licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Court on Oct. 19, 2018 to answer to his charges.

On Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018 at approximately 3:15 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer investigated the male driver of a blue sedan on Black Street in the Town of Fergus for a Highway Traffic Act violation.

While speaking with the driver, police determined that he was under the influence of alcohol. An open container of alcohol was also observed within reach of the driver. A roadside screening device test (ASD) was conducted which resulted in a fail. He was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

Twenty-nine-year-old Jonathon Parker of Fergus has been charged with over 80 mgs contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada as well as drive motor vehicle with open container of liquor contrary to the Liquor Licence Act and drive motor vehicle - no currently validated permit contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on Oct. 16, 2018.
