Two drivers face impaired charges

Both drivers have their licence suspended for 90 days

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON - On Friday, Jan. 18, 2019 at approximately 11:40 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police officers investigated the driver of a silver pickup truck on Highway 6 near the Second Line for a Highway Traffic Act violation.

While speaking with the male driver and making observations, police determined that his ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and he was placed under arrest. He was transported to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing. Open containers of alcohol were seized from within the front compartment of the vehicle.

Fifty-two-year-old John Hepworth of Fergus has been charged with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration - 80 plus and operation while impaired contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada as well as speeding and drive motor vehicle with open container of liquor. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on Feb. 19, 2019 to answer to the charges.  

A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON - On Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019 at approximately 3:50 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of an erratic driver operating a grey motor vehicle on Highway 7 near Wellington Road 44. Witness advised that the vehicle was all over the road and failed to stop at a red light.

Police located the vehicle that matched the description and conducted a traffic stop.

While speaking with the male driver, officers formed the opinion that his ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and he was placed under arrest. He was transported to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing where he refused to comply with the demand to provide a breath sample.

Thirty-six-year-old Jason Coke of Guelph has been charged with refusing to provide/comply with demand contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on Feb. 19, 2019 to answer to the charge.
