Overnight on Dec. 16, the Guelph Police Service conducted a RIDE program in the City of Guelph. There were 575 vehicles that were checked by officers with seven roadside screening tests being administered. Five of the seven drivers were found to be within the legal limit. Two drivers, a 31-year-old Guelph male and a 26-year-old Brampton male, were issued three-day driving licence suspensions for registering an alert and one had their vehicle towed.

RIDE officers encountered several individuals who had either a designated driver or planned for a safe ride home prior to going out for the evening.

Guelph Police would like to remind drivers that they will continue to conduct random spot checks between now and the holiday season for persons driving under the influence of alcohol. Registering breath samples over 80 mgs of alcohol per 100 mls of blood will result in an immediate 90-day administrative drivers licence suspension. Convictions for impaired driving and driving with over 80 mgs will both result in a minimum of 12-month driving prohibition.
