Vehicle clocked at more than 160 km/h in an 80 km/h zone

Three drivers face racing charges in unrelated incidents

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON - On Oct. 18, 2019 at approximately 9:30 p.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic and conducting radar on Highway 6 near Side Road 10. The officer observed a grey motor vehicle travelling southbound at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 160 km/h.

Gavin Card-Barnett, 21-years-old of Centre Wellington has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Offences Court on Jan. 15, 2020. The driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

On Oct. 19, 2019 at approximately 12:50 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic and conducting radar on Highway 6 near Laird Road in the City of Guelph. The officer observed a white sedan travelling northbound at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 135 km/h.

Caitlin Hardiment, 23-years-old of Guelph has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Offences Court on Jan. 15, 2020. The driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON - On Oct. 20, 2019 at approximately 11:25 p.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic and conducting radar on Wellington Road 7 near Hill Street. The officer observed a black motor vehicle travelling southbound at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 50 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 100 km/h.

Colin Drummond, 18-years-old of Guelph has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Offences Court on Jan. 15, 2020. The driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
