The following news releases were issued today by the Guelph Police Service:
Theft from car – arrest made
On Jan. 22, 2019 at approximately 11:50 p.m., Police went to the area of Glasgow Street and Preston Street for the report that a male had smashed the window to a car and committed a theft. Police located the male a short distance away and he was arrested.
A 41-year-old Guelph male has been charged with mischief under $5,000, theft under $5,000, possession of break and enter tools and 3 counts of breach of probation. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Break and enter
On Jan. 22, 2019, the Guelph Police investigated a break and enter at a Woodlawn Road East apartment building. The break-in occurred on Jan. 18, 2019 at approximately 5:30 a.m. Two male suspects pried the front door to gain entry to the building. Once inside, they pried the laundry room door. Approximately $200 in damage was caused to the machines and coins were stolen.
Male one is described as wearing a winter jacket that appeared dark at the shoulders and lighter below. It also had pockets to the front. He wore a dark coloured toque with two white lines around it and his face was covered.

Stolen car
On Jan. 22, 2019 at approximately 11 p.m., a 2007 grey Mazda 6, Ontario plate CHDY213 was stolen from the parking lot of 666 Woolwich St. The car had been left running while the owner was inside a business.

Underground parking garage entered
On Jan. 22, 2019, Guelph Police went to a downtown condominium building to investigate property damage and theft. Sometime overnight, unknown person(s) gained entry to the underground parking garage. Four cars had items stolen from them and damaged was caused.

Theft from cars
On January 22, 2019 the Guelph Police received two reports of theft from cars. The locations were Delhi Street and Regal Road.
This crime is easily avoidable. Please lock your cars and do not leave belongings visible. If you do become a victim of this crime you can report it through the Guelph Police online reporting portal.
Busy day on the roads
Over the past 24 hours, Guelph Police investigated nine collisions. Weather conditions today are going to make for hazardous driving conditions. Remember to drive accordingly. Slow down!

Fire at 1 Waterloo Ave

Jan. 23, 2019 at approximately 4:19 a.m., the Guelph Fire Department responded to a reported bedroom fire at the above noted location. Units from HQ, 3 station, 4 station and 5 station arrived at the scene and found blackened out windows on the second floor of the residence.
The fire was quickly brought under control and subsequently extinguished. A bed mattress was removed from the residence and overhaul was performed by firefighting personnel.
There were no injuries to firefighting personnel. One occupant was taken by ambulance to Guelph General Hospital for which appeared to be minor injuries at the time, all other occupants of the residence have been harboured in place.
The cause of the fire along with an estimate of damage is still under investigation. Fire Prevention was contacted and will be conducting an investigation.
