A Yewholme Drive resident was only out of the house for just over an hour early yesterday afternoon when he returned back home to find that someone had broken in through a back window.

A Yewholme Drive resident was only out of the house for just over an hour early yesterday afternoon when he returned back home to find that someone had broken in through a back window.  The home was checked and the unknown suspect(s) was nowhere to be found. The house was rummaged through and it is reported that jewelry and a quantity of cash was taken.

Police want to remind people that it is a common tactic of thieves during the daytime hours to often knock at doors to see if anyone is at home. If you are at home during the day and receive a knock at your door by a person asking for a person who doesn’t live there, directions or any other unusual conversation, please contact police. Your diligence might just prevent you and your neighbours from being victimized.

Traffic stop arrest

At approximately 3:30 a.m. on Mar. 21, police performed a traffic stop of a Honda Civic on Cole Road and from the interaction with the driver, it was learned that he was in breach of conditions from previous break and enter charges. The male was arrested and a subsequent search found a white substance believed to be cocaine as well as other property related to other crimes.

A 43-year-old Guelph man is charged breach of recognizance, breach of undertaking, possession of a controlled substance, possession of break in instruments and possession of property obtained by crime. He was held in custody to appear in bail court.

Vehicle collisions

The Guelph Police responded to seven other motor vehicle collisions that did not involve any injuries and charges were laid in three of the collisions.

Traffic enforcement

The numbers for Mar. 21 show that there were 64 vehicles that were stopped for traffic enforcement over the day that resulted in traffic related charges being laid in 39 of those stops.

Call for service

Mar. 21 was a steady day for the Guelph Police Service who responded to 250 calls for service.
