Guelph Police Service dealt with 211 calls for service

The following news releases were issued today by the Guelph Police Service:

Man fails to pay for cab ride - arrested
On May 28, 2019, the Guelph Police were called to assist a cab driver with a male that had failed to pay his fare. Investigation determined that the man had taken a cab to a store on Eramosa. The man went into the store and later exited, walking past the waiting cab and went to a nearby grocery. The man eventually left that grocery store and continued walking without acknowledging the cab driver. Police were called and located the man on Stevenson Street. He was arrested and a subsequent search discovered product stolen from the grocery store.

The 45-year-old Guelph man has been charged with obtain transportation by fraud, theft under and breach probation. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Three arrested on warrants
A 20-year-old Guelph man arrested on grounds for assault and breach probation. Search subsequent to his arrest discovered over 166 grams of cannabis and he was further charged with possess over 30 grams of dried cannabis under the Cannabis Act. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

A 37-year-old Tillsonberg man arrested on a warrant for theft under and breach probation. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

A 28-year-old Guelph man arrested on a warrant for possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Break and enter
On May 28, 2019, the Guelph Police went to a Eugene Drive residence for the report of a break and enter. Sometime overnight, the culprit(s) entered the open garage accessing the car. A wallet is reported stolen.

Impaired driver arrested
On May 29, 2019 at 2:26 a.m., Guelph Police went to a Silvercreek Parkway South location to investigate the report of a possible impaired driver. Police located the motor vehicle in the parking lot, parked but running with a female sitting in the driver’s seat. She appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and a roadside test with an approved screening device was conducted. A fail was indicated and she was arrested. Two breath tests at the station confirmed that she had almost twice the legal limit of alcohol in her system.

The 24-year-old Oakville woman has been charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration. She will appear in court on June 11, 2019.

Theft from cars
On May 28, 2019, the Guelph Police received three reports of theft from cars. The locations were Paisley Road, Washburn Drive and Munroe Crescent.

This crime is easily avoidable. Please lock your cars and do not leave belongings visible. If you do become a victim of this crime you can report it through the Guelph Police online reporting portal.
