Woman arrested trying to open line of credit under fake name

A Guelph woman faces several charges after someone attempted to open a line of credit under a fake name.

Police were called to a bank in the south end approximately 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Investigation revealed a woman was attempting to open a line of credit using a temporary bank card issued a day earlier at a branch in Mississauga. A staff member was suspicious of the documentation offered and called police.

The woman was located a short distance away and found to be in possession of the bank card and various identity documents in a fake name. She also had a cheque for more than $230,000 made out to the same name.

A 24-year-old is charged with three counts of uttering a forged document, two counts of possessing identity documents and two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking. She was held for a bail hearing.
