Guelph/Eramosa township approved a minor variance Wednesday that will allow four new houses to exceed height limits.

County of Wellington planner Joanna Salsberg explained each of the four applications for construction and building design. She pointed out that the homes are home designs that fit in with the intent and nature of the relevant by-laws.

The request is for houses to be just over 12 metres in height. Nine metres is the usual max.

Della Ross represented Crescent Haven Homes Ltd. in the meeting, noting they were requesting only minor variances to applicable by-laws.

Ross continued that, where one issue is the height of homes, since the homes are on a slope, the homes are three stories out front but only two stories at rear. This means that at the rear, the buildings fit in with the allowed height.

Moreover, Ross commented that the homes will be outside the floodplain.

The minor variances were for 310 Main St. S., 120 George St., 122 George St. and 124 George St.

The decisions can be appealed until Sept. 30.
