Accused shoplifter found in possession of crystal meth

On Feb. 5, 2020 just before 7 p.m., the loss prevention officer of a store located near the intersection of Scottsdale Drive and Stone Road West in the City of Guelph, observed an adult female [allegedly] shoplifting $895.86 worth of cosmetics and other merchandise. The female was stopped before she could get in to her vehicle and police were contacted.

At 7:17 p.m., police attended the scene and verbally arrested the female. In speaking with the female, she provided a name that did not match the name of the registered owner of her vehicle. When police used the name of the registered owner, the female got visually upset, stood up, started screaming, clenched her fists and quickly started advancing towards police. Police attempted to take physical control of the female but she ripped her arm away and attempted to flee. Police eventually were able to gain physical control, placing her in handcuffs.

A search incident to arrest revealed 0.13 grams of crystal meth in her coat pocket.

A 41-year-old Guelph female has been charged with:
    •    Theft under $5,000
    •    Obstruct police
    •    Resist police
    •    Possession of a controlled substance

She was held in custody pending a bail hearing on Feb. 6.
