Friday at 3:30 a.m., Guelph police were called to a residential building located near the intersection of Woolwich Street and Speedvale Avenue West for a report of a disturbance.

Initial reports received by police were that a male with a hammer had just broken into one of the units. Police arrived and found two adult victims, one of them being a man with stab wounds to his leg. The man was transported to a trauma centre, where he was eventually released. A woman received minor injuries and did not require medical attention.

The adult male suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival. Police continued to investigate and at 1:15pm, the man was found in a residential building located in the downtown core. He was subsequently arrested.

A 55-year-old Guelph man was charged with:

- Break, enter and commit indictable offence

- Assault with a weapon x2

- Mischief under $5,000

- Aggravated assault

- Uttering threats to cause death
