DNA testing leads to arrest in ransacking of garage back in September

TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH/ERAMOSA - On Sept. 16, 2019, a break-in occurred at a residence and garage on Jones Baseline in the Township of Guelph/Eramosa. It was reported that the buildings had been ransacked and a number tools had been stolen.

Investigators attended and found that a door at the residence had been pried open and that the pry tool had been left behind. Scenes of Crimes Officers (S.O.C.O.) had managed to lift a Deoxyribonucleic Acid (D.N.A.) sample from the tool.

Using the D.N.A. sample, investigators identified a suspect and filed for an arrest warrant. On Jan. 28, 2020, investigators arrested and charged Matthew George Joseph Butcher, 37-years-old of Owen Sound with two counts of break and enter.
