Driver faces numerous charges after almost hitting pedestrian

Police say subsequent search discovered the man was in possession of fentanyl

A 26-year-old Guelph man faces several charges after losing control of his vehicle and almost hitting a person on the sidewalk Friday.

Gueph Police say that at around 7:30 p.m., an adult male driving near the intersection of Victoria Road South and Arkell Road lost control of his motor vehicle, drove into the oncoming lane, mounted the curb flattening a tire and almost struck a pedestrian walking on the sidewalk.

There were no injuries in the incident.

Police attended the scene and further investigation revealed that the male’s driver’s license was suspended. He was subsequently arrested.

A search incident to arrest revealed 0.3 grams of purple fentanyl valued at $110.

He was charged with:

- Careless driving
- Drive while under suspension
- Possession of a controlled substance – schedule I
- Breach probation

He will appear in court on Feb. 12.
