Female faces arson charge in relation to last month's motel fire

No one was seriously injured but there was extensive damage to the motel

A Guelph female has been charged with arson in connection with a fire last month which caused extensive damage to a north end motel.

Approximately 4:45 a.m. May 27, Guelph Fire Department and Guelph police were called to a motel on Woodlawn Road West at Silvercreek Parkway North. A fire in a second-storey room caused extensive damage to several rooms and displaced more than two dozen guests. One person was taken to hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

Investigation, including assistance from the Office of the Fire Marshall, determined the fire was set on a bed.

A 49-year-old Guelph female has been charged with arson with disregard for human life. She will appear in a Guelph court Oct. 5.
