Fergus resident accused of impaired driving

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON - On Nov. 12, 2020 at approximately 11:55 p.m. a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated the driver of a motor vehicle for a Highway Traffic Act (HTA) violation on Irvine Street near East Mill Street in Elora.

Police spoke with the driver and determined that their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol.

The driver was placed under arrest for impaired operation and they were read the demand to provide a breath sample.

The driver later declined to provide the required samples of their breath.

Sean Michael Mills, 39 years old of Fergus has been charged with operation while impaired-alcohol or drug and failure or refuse to comply with demand contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph on Dec. 12, 2020.

The vehicle was impounded for seven days and driver's licence suspended for 90 as per statute.

If you suspect someone is driving while their ability to operate a motor vehicle is impaired, either by drug or alcohol, call police at 911 to report it.
