The following is a news release from Guelph Police:

Community Feedback Survey 2017

As part of our 2016-2018 Business Plan, the Guelph Police Service is committed to developing and implementing a strategy focusing on property and drug-related crime, with one goal being to reduce both. Part of this includes conducting a community survey in order to determine how members of the public view our current performance. It also offers community members an opportunity to suggest any possible areas for improvement. Please click here to take the survey.

The answers to this survey will be used to develop alternative strategies for property and drug-related crime. The answers will only be used for research purposes and all answers will be anonymous.

You may choose not to answer any question you do not wish to, but any feedback you can provide is appreciated.

The survey is available through this page on our website until Sept. 4, 2017. http://www.guelphpolice.ca/en/news-and-events.asp

August long weekend safety tips

As the long weekend approaches the Guelph Police Service would like to share a few safety tips for motorists this weekend.

Drivers:

  • Get plenty of sleep before a long drive.
  • Plan routes to allow more attention on travel safely.
  • Remember, it is against the law to use all hand held communications devices behind the wheel.
  • Keep a safe following distance between vehicles.
  • DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE

Towing trailers:

  • Make sure the weight of the trailer does not exceed the vehicle’s towing capacity because this could pose a safety risk. This information can be found in the owner’s manuals.
  • Take into account the extra size and weight of trailers. Be extra cautious when changing lanes, making turns and especially when slowing down since the load could significantly increase the distance required to stop.
  • Motorists should also ensure that the trailer is securely attached to the vehicle and check this throughout the trip.

Inspect vehicles, trailers and motor homes to ensure reliable performance prior to any trips.

Pack an emergency kit that includes a flashlight, booster cables, tire puncture sealant, first-aid kit, flares, drinking water and a charged cell phone.

Lastly, if you see something, say something and call 911. Have a safe and happy August Long Weekend.
