Held in custody pending a bail hearing
Guelph Police

A Guelph male wanted on two outstanding warrants was arrested Monday evening and now faces several charges.

Guelph police report that on Saturday at approximately 5:50 p.m., police observed a stolen motor vehicle in the area of Willow Road and Silvercreek Parkway North. Officers got close enough to identify the driver, but when they activated their emergency lights he took off, driving over a curb and nearly hitting another vehicle. Police did not pursue at that time out of concern for public safety.

Sunday at approximately 5:15 p.m., police were informed of a gas drive-off at a gas station on Woodlawn Road West near Imperial Road North involving the same vehicle. The driver pumped $40 worth of gas and drove off making no attempt to pay. Police searched the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

Monday evening, officers on patrol spotted the stolen vehicle in a parking lot in the area of Victoria Road North and Brant Avenue. Information was received that the male was inside an apartment unit in the area and he was arrested on scene.

The 29-year-old is charged with two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, dangerous operation, flight from police, driving while prohibited, theft under $5,000 and breach of probation.

He was held in custody for a bail hearing Tuesday.
