Impaired charges stem from early-morning collision

Two people face impair charges after separate incidents last weekend

GUELPH-ERAMOSA TOWNSHIP - On Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018 at approximately 2:20 a.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a twovehicle collision on Wellington Road 124 at Wellington Road 32. 

Investigation revealed that a westbound sport utility vehicle (SUV) rear-ended a four-door sedan that was stopped at a red light at that intersection.

While speaking with the male driver of the SUV, officers determined that his ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and he was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

22-year-old Ryan Penelton of Huron East has been charged with Driving with Over 80 mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood and Impaired Driving contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on Dec. 14, 2018 to answer to the charges. 

A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

If you suspect someone is driving while their ability to operate a motor vehicle is impaired, either by drug or alcohol, call police at 911 to report it.

CITY OF GUELPH - On Friday, Nov. 16, 2018 at approximately 9:40 p.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated the female driver of a white passenger van that entered into R.I.D.E. spot check on Highway 6 at Laird Road west in the City of Guelph.

While speaking with the female, officers detected the odour of marijuana and observed a container of dried marijuana in plain view, within reach of the driver.

31-year-old Lindsay Trites of Puslinch Township was served a provincial offence notice for Drive Motor Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available contrary to the Cannabis Act 2017.
