Lost lion cub spotted in Kenilworth

TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH - On Thursday, May 31, 2018 at approximately 9 a.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an animal complaint. A driver on Highway 6, Kenilworth, observed a small lion cub on the side of the road.

Officers attended but the animal was gone. Police identified the keepers of the lion and discovered that it had escaped its enclosure near the point last seen. Wellington County OPP Bicycle Units, Officers and the owners searched for approximately an hour and located the cub a short distance from its pen.

The 60 lbs cub was unharmed and returned to its enclosure. The owner is making arrangements to further protect the young lioness.

While exotic pets are not prohibited in the Township of Wellington North it is always advisable to check with local laws before investing in any. Also, ensure that any pet is managed as necessary to prevent harm to it or others.
