Man charged with assaulting employee and police officer

A Guelph man faces charges after a store employee and police officer were both assaulted Thursday morning, say Guelph police.

Approximately 11:40 a.m., officers were dealing with an unrelated matter when they heard screaming coming a business near Gordon Street and Wellington Street. A male ran from the business yelling for someone to call police.

The officers ran to the business and learned a male had entered, gone behind the counter and assaulted a female employee. Officers entered and ordered the man to the ground, but he ignored them and ran at one officer while throwing punches. He was taken to the floor and arrested.

The store employee, a woman in her 60s, was transported to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

A 38-year-old man is charged with assault and assault police.
