Guelph Police Service dealt with 579 calls for service over the weekend

The following news releases were issued today by the Guelph Police Service:

Collision
On March 3, 2019 at approximately 10:10 p.m., a tractor trailer struck a Honda Civic at the intersection of Victoria Road South and Stone Road East. The Honda was rendered not drivable and had to be towed. No injuries were reported. The driver of the tractor trailer has been charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

Break and enters
On March 3, 2019, the Guelph Police went to a Mac Avenue residence for a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered the garage through a window. The theft of a bicycle and Mastercraft air framing nail gun is reported.

On March 2, 2019, the Guelph Police went to an Oxford Street residence for a break and enter. The entry to the basement is believed to have occurred sometime over the past week. A theft is reported.

On March 1, 2019, the Guelph Police went to a Dufferin Street residence for a break and enter. The culprit(s) forced a rear door to gain entry. A theft of electronics, cash and credit cards is reported.

On March 1, 2019, the Guelph Police went to an Earl Street residence for a break and enter. The culprit(s) cut a hole in a temporary shed to gain entry. A theft is reported.

Drug arrest
On March 1, 2019 at approximately 7 p.m., Guelph Police attended to a plaza located on Wellington Street East to deal with a male bothering the businesses. Investigation resulted in approximately $300 in methamphetamine being located on the man and he was arrested.

Joseph Godin, 27 years of Guelph has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and four counts of breach of probation.

Impaired driver arrested
On March 3, 2019 at 4:16 a.m., Guelph Police observed a motor vehicle being operated in the parking lot of a south end plaza. Police conducted an investigation with the driver of the motor vehicle and a road side test with an approved screening device was conducted.  A fail was indicated and the male driver was arrested.

Alexander Toppazzini, 18 years of Ridgeway has been charged with operate conveyance at 80 mgs or above. He will appear in court on March 22, 2019.

Impaired driver arrested
On March 2, 2019 at 11:29 p.m., Guelph Police conducted a traffic stop with a motor vehicle on Willow Road. Investigation led to the arrest of the female driver.

Kachin Whitehawk, 28 years of Guelph has been charged with operate conveyance while impaired and operate conveyance at 80 mgs or above. She will appear in court on May 10, 2019.
