OPP smell 'strong odour of fresh marijuana' at RIDE check, Elora man charged

On Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019, members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check at Wellington Road 39 at Wellington Road 51 in Guelph-Eramosa Township.

At approximately 1:45 p.m., officers investigated the driver of a motor vehicle that entered into the checkpoint. While speaking with the driver, officer's detected a strong odour of fresh marijuana inside the vehicle. The driver retrieved and surrendered a large Ziploc baggy from the backseat area that contained marijuana.

Forty-three-year-old Daniel Bridge of Elora has been charged with possession over 30 grams contrary to the Cannabis Act and unlawful purchase of cannabis contrary to the Cannabis Act 2017. 

He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on Feb. 12, 2019 to answer to the charges.
